REs Triumph at SAA Meeting

The 108 Field Squadron RE members (that included PT) helped the Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers (Militia) to 1st & 2nd place overall at the Corps Skill at Arms Meeting in April.

PT himself placed 2nd in the Young Soldier and 'B Class' competitions, ...that's my boy :-)

Words from Min

We received an unexpected letter from Min today -- did not expect she would have time for a couple of weeks at least. She sounds really good! Very impressed with her instructors; she says one is 90 pounds soaking wet, and could snap her like a toothpick. So she still has her sense of humour, plus she has the new-found ability to roll her T-shirts like a cinnamon roll.

Min just called to give us her address. She is allowed one phone call the first week and is not guaranteed a call for the rest of boot camp, but her flight may earn that privilege later on. She spouted off a whole paragraph of stuff about how to get in contact in an emergency, not to send 'candy, gum or food'. It was obviously a script and she rushed through it. Then she gave us her address really slowly. When we had it down her voice changed completely - I think they must be given a set amount of time, and if there's any left over they can use it for personal words. She said it is going well, her instructers are 'awesome', wished Naomi a happy Mothers Day and Ellie best wishes for her commission. Then she was gone.

She sounded really strong. I had half expected a tearful or stressful call, but not a bit of that.

If you would like to write (and I know she'd appreciate it), here's her address

Min left for Boot Camp

We dropped Min off today at the recruiting station near home. Now she's off to Fort Dix about 30 miles south of us. She'll spend the night in a hotel, then tomorrow she will have a quick medical, signs her contract and swears in to the US Air Force. Then off to Philadelphia for the flight to San Antonio, Texas.

Councillor Joe it is!

Well, Joe made it! He is now a Councillor for the Worksop North East ward of the Bassetlaw council. The results of the election were:
Worksop North-East
Simon Greaves The Labour Party 807
Joseph Hayward The Conservative Party 832
Turn out 32.3 per cent
Source: News–Worksop Today!
Seeing that the seat was previously held by the Labour candidate, this is a really good result for Joe. Well done from us all!
